Promotional Blog's (UPDATED)

Often with a film release they will be behind the scenes promotional information. In our current post modern society the most common form of this could be a promotional blog.
This way fans who want to find out more about the film can, the blogs can contain photos, videos and usually a documentation of the production of the film.

Peter Jackson's  Latest Epic The Hobbit (2012) has its own blog..

http://thehobbitmovieblog.blogspot.com/

The blog is probably written by a member of the production team and the blog tracks the development of the film, with video clips and images uploaded onto the blog such as pictures of them building the set for the film.

I decided to create a blog for my own film. I decided to make the blog appeal to a my target audience so its not a very professional blog and its very very informal.

http://www.officialnotachance.blogspot.com/  (Still adding parts to it)

In it i have uploaded some of my videos and production work so that any viewer can found out more about my film, as well as track my day to day work on the film.
I have also included some tools that make my blog feel more like a real media example, such as a gadget where the viewers can vote on who i should star as one of my characters. (disclaimer: these actors are just examples)

As well as producing a blog for the film i have created a blog for my production company "Limited Edition"

http://www.limitededitionproduction.blogspot.com/

On this blog i have written posts on different videos i have produced in the last year as well as created a bio for the company.

Promotional Poster (UPDATED)

So my final cut is finished and so is my evaluation but i have forgot about the most important part of the project, the Promotional Poster.

I have looked at many exmaples of Rom com promotional posters and i have noticed one thing that stays the same across the board. And that is that the promotional posters tend to be able do what they want As long as it contains the main character/character's.

Here are two examples (i am mainly looking at teen rom com posters because thats what i am doing)

Another point that i have picked up on is that alot of the teen rom com posters that i have look at have a cartoony theme. I plan to use this idea on my poster. Also the posters always have the title of the film and in some cases a caption and in some other cases comments from critics or magazines.

My idea will use the cartoony idea as well as include an image of both the male and female leading characters. I am then going to use a title heading in a speech bubble so its similar to the title in my film (and this could hopefully become a house style for other promotional pieces for the film) and a made up comment from a newspaper.

Directors Commentary

n audio commentary is an additional audio track consisting of a lecture or comments by one or more speakers, that plays in real time with video. Commentaries can be serious or entertaining in nature, and can add information which otherwise would not be disclosed to audience members.

A directors commentary is when the directors on his own or with other members of the production team or cast will talk about the film or particular films in real time with the film playing.
The below information is taken from wikipedia
  • Typically a commentary track will include feature-length commentary from the film's director, cast members, or occasionally writers and producers
  • Occasionally actors will perform commentary in-character
  • some DVDs include outsider commentary performed by film critics, historians, scholars or fans
  • Some DVDs feature commentaries with on-screen video enhancements, such as telestrator prompts
  • where one of the subtitle tracks is used to add silhouettes of the speakers in a manner where they seem to be in a theater commenting on the movie as it was screened for them in the style of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
This is a example of a part of a audio commentary from a film.

This is my commentary, recorded with just me talking about my final piece as it plays.

Summer Submission Final Cut with comments

So after a long time of filming and editing this is my final cut.

They are a few small problems with my final cut but its now too late to change them, one is that my audio cuts out right at the end, by about half a second which isn't too much of a problem but its quite bad that after all the editing it did that.

Here are some of the comments i have had so far on facebook and youtube from it.

Rough cut 3 + Feedback

This is my third rough cut,
They are a few changes from the second rough cut,
  • I have added the end scene
  • I have added my second logo
I am looking for feedback mainly on the ending scene, and on the part where it slows down.

This is some feedback i got from facebook.
This is the feedback i gained in class

  • Sort out the movement of the geek while the speach bubble is coming up.
  • Use slow motion on the girl to give the idea that the geek is dreaming about her
  • remove the jock walking up to the geek, so that once the boy has said hi it quickly cuts to the jock pushing the boy.
  • Improve the FRAMING!
  • Instead of the boy sliding down due to being hit, have him slide down because he was embarrsed
  • Zoom in on the final title.

Rough cut 2 + audience feedback

This is the second cut, the difference from the first cut to this, is the placements of clips and how i have made them lead into each other.

Here it is

This is the feedback

The feedback its self isn't very helpful but i picked up on a few points,

  • I need to work on the titles more
  • Need to add the end scene
  • Its quite good so far
  • Song is a good choice
Mainly the feedback i have got is the same as what i have had in the past.

Film Title

Naming my film was one of the more tricky creative processes for my movie.

I looked through other examples of movies names that contain similar plot lines as mine but thier film name is usually relating to the second sub plot of the movie.
E.g. Youth in revolt is referencing to the male leading character revolting.

I then look at other general rom com names and they are very varied, they are examples where its just the name of the male character Napoleon Dynamite.  And a lot of rom com film names are referencing to what the films about. The break up is a example of this.

Me and a friend brainstormed a few names.

  • The equation of love < the idea came from the idea of the geek trying to think of the perfect equation of finding love. I ditched this idea because i personally found it really chessy and bad.
  • I just want to be friends < I thought this was a good idea as it suits the whole teenage romance idea, though it basically is saying that the geek and girl are friends. but in my film i want her to not even know who he is.

I finally came up with the idea i am using, Not a chance, It is basically a reference to the fact that the geek doesnt believe he has a chance in hell with the girl he likes. I did a quick search on IMDB to see if they was a film with the same name. The results of the search brought up no match.
